This is the 2010 Spring-Summer Mid-season Update to the wonderful world of network and cable television shows for the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres. not that I will be able to keep up with all of them, as last fall has proven. My apologies, but this second recession in my life that has kicked me so badly in the stones ... I am guaranteed to never spawn my own children. In fact, I currently have only one channel I am able to get on broadcast television: ABC. Thank the Gawds for Hulu, as it has helped me catch up to most television, and even keep up with the new stuff this summer:

ABC cancelled all but one of it's new genre shows: Eastwick, Defying Gravity and most recently Flash Forward and Happy Town. If you, like me, never saw the remaining 5 episodes for Defying Gravity, it is available now on DVD. However, V has been picked up to continue it's invasion upon humanity. And, of course, LOST finally found some closure, for better or worse. ABC does have a couple of new shows for us to hope for: The Gates, not your ordinary neighborhood ... unless you are accustomed to living next door to werewolves and vampires. Which leads me to the new fall series, No Ordinary Family ... a title that pretty much sums it all up, except instead of monsters, this mild-mannered family has discovered they now possess super powers following a plane crash during their last vacation. Both sound fairly light-hearted, fun faire ... we'll see if ABC can hang on to them.

CBS ditched a horde of shows of thier own, including Ghost Whisperer, so all that remains is the NBC refugee, Medium, renewed for a seventh season.

NBC is keeping Chuck, thank gawd, but Heroes got the axe and is not coming back for a fifth season (if we are very very lucky, creators and fans will get a chance to wrap up the saga with a movie or mini-series event). Merlin has been passed down to NBC's bastard child, SyFy Channel, and renewed for a 3rd season, but us Hulu fans are still waiting for Season 2. The aftermath of the apocalypse series, Day One, remains in some sort of bizarre state of limbo ... but it doesn't look like we'll even get to see a two-hour movie, much less a series from it (what the hell do you do with a series that has been shot, yet never airs?). However, we are currently getting the new chiller, Persons Unknown, which appears to be my fav new show of the year. Come fall, NBC will premiere two new promising series: The Event, a massive intense conspiracy thriller (hell, the promo gave me chills), and the good cop turned wrongfully accused criminal turned into his son's favorite comic book superhero, The Cape (yeah, I know it looks Dark Knight-ish, but is that really so bad?).

CW continues with Vampire Diaries, Legend of the Seeker, and Supernatural. But this appears to be the final season of Smallville (a record 10 seasons!), so let's enjoy it while we can.

FOX cancels Past Life, but continues with Fringe and the loosely-based comic book, Human Target, is renewed for a 2nd season.

ION ... I missed the 2nd season of Durham County, last year. While a third season is being shot for the series, I just dunno whether ION will air it. I really enjoyed the series, and hope Americans will continue to find some way to keep up with it.

Lifetime continues with a second season of Drop Dead Diva.

STARZ renewed it's scandalous new series, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, before the first episode of the first season ever aired. Which is good, cause it was probably one of the best new series of the year! Unfortunately, when that second season may air is yet-to-be-determined. Basically, Andy Whitfield aka Spartacus needed treatment, after catching the early stage of cancer. Thankfully, he is now cancer-free, and back in training for the 2nd season of the show. Meanwhile, creators came up with a cool plan to keep the show's momentum going for fans: a prequel called Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, focusing the Roman characters Lucretia aka Lucy Lawless and Batiatus aka John Hannah. An added treat for us fans, to be sure.

HBO's adaptation of George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones is currently in production, so traditional fantasy fans rejoice as this very epic, very large cast arrives to television sometime in 2011. And, True Blood continues to drain the blood of fans everywhere.

Showtime still has everyone's favorite Serial Killer, Dexter. And, Tudors will get one final season.

BBC America returns witha second season this month with one of my favorite new series, Being Human. I can easily admit here that I miss not having cable or satellite broadcast simply due to this channel. I missed the finale of Robin Hood, most of Survivors and Ashes-to-Ashes, all of season 3 of Primeval (sigh, these sites were reborn with that fine show) and meeting whomever is the next Doctor Who, currently running. Spin-off Torchwood is coming with a 4th season, which is said to also be sharing with STARZ hopefully next summer (fingers and toes crossed). Survivors got canceled, but did air a 2nd Season. I am unsure whether or not BBC America will run Season 2. Despite the on-again-off-again rumors of it's demise, Primeval IS returning with 2 new seasons, next year. Season 4 has wrapped up shooting, and Season 5 is about to start. There are even whispers of an American adaptation, so do not give up on Primeval. A 3rd and Final Season of Ashes to Ashes has already run it's course, finally tying up everything from Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes time-traveling franchise. When BBC America will air it is anyone's guess. There is a new series coming very soon from the creators of Life on Mars, called Outcasts ... about life on a newly colonized planet set 30 years in our future (anybody remember NBC's 1994-1995 Earth 2). As for Doctor Who ... originally, Americans were getting this revamped series on the original SciFi Channel, while BBC America would air the reruns. However, BBC America acquired the US rights to Doctor Who and aired all those movie specials last year, and has just finished running Season 5 on BBC America. Will there be a Season Six? And I dunno where the Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures is going to be (SyFy or BBC America), but it has been running so successfully that it has a Season 4 and 5 on the way somewhere. I know it was geared to kids, but I liked it.

SyFy Channel continues new seasons of Warehouse 13, Eureka, Sanctuary, Stargate SGU and Caprica. SyFy also has a new entry called Haven, which is a very loose adaptation of Stephen King's novella, The Colorado Kid.

I won't likely update this page much, as it is a mid-season filler. But, look for a Fall 2010 - Winter 2011 page coming in August or September, as the new season of scifi, fantasy and horror television shows begin to air:
