Premiering tonight on BBC America is the latest cult hit from across the pond, Primeval. Now, I know it looks like I am cheating a bit here, by posting this show across all three websites. But, this is one of those rare instances where it's appropriate:

  1. It deals with a rip in time and space, so that makes it science fiction.
  2. Dinosaurs coming pouring out of it, which falls under the fantasy genre.
  3. A nasty, gnarling creature that caused this nightmare is all horror to me!

I fell head-over-heels with BBC America a few years ago, when I ran across ads for a horror/fantasy series called, Hex (a demon using a brit university as his staging ground for the apocalypse). Following that, I watched two more series thatare being adapted to American television in the Fall season, Life on Mars and The Eleventh Hour. And just recently, wrapped up two seasons of the Doctor Who spin-off, Torchwood, and the fantasy re-telling, Robin Hood. BTW, the Graham Norton show is hysterical. Fortunately for me, we get another series to fill the "Supernatural Saturday" void that I have become sooo addicted to ...

Primeval begins with some strange sightings in the forests of England. The Home Office sends Evolutionary Zoologist, Nick Cutter, to check things out. Nick takes his two sidekicks, geeky research assistant, Conner, and the buff lab tech, Stephen, along with government "suit" Claudia, with him to see what all the fuss is about. Nick is still trying to deal with the mysterious disappearance of his beloved wife, Helen, but now being dragged to the same place where she was last seen 8 years ago, just to check out a freakin' lizard ... well, that is just too much.

Enter Abby, an animal handler for a local zoo,who bumps into not a new species of lizard but an actual dinosaur, or two, at the request of a young boy. As these worlds collide, they discover not only a tear in space and time ... but, something even more terrifying ... a monstrous creature in the future (like dinosaurs of the past, running around the streets of England, weren't bad enough) bent on our humanoid destruction. What is it? What did we ever do to piss the thing off?? ... find out every Saturday night on BBC America:

The Team:

  • Professor Nick Cutter - Douglas Henshall (Kull the Conqueror and the upcoming Dorian Gray)
  • Conner Temple - Andrew Lee Potts (Strange, Return to House on Haunted Hill, and the upcoming UK horror flick, Freakdog)
  • Stephen Hart - James Murray (in the upcoming remake to oine of my fav horror flicks of all time, It's Alive ... ssshhh, don't tell anyone, yet)
  • Abby Maitland - Hannah Spearritt (Seed of Chucky)

The Home Office:

  • Sir James Lester - Ben Miller
  • Claudia Brown - Lucy Brown (Minotaur)

The Mysterious Missing Wife:

  • Helen Cutter - Juliet Aubrey

Please Note: While this is brand new to American audiences, this series is getting geared up for it's 3rd season for the Brits. Like writing bad reviews, I don't do spoilers. Hell, I already stumbled across things that have happened in the first and second season, that I hope to forget so I can enjoy the show ... luckily, I drink heavily and should forget by morning. The point is, I won't show you links to the sites, that are caught up with the current seasons of the show (quite your whining, you know how to Google). And, I am also leaving out several new characters that will be introduced as this series progresses, so the primary cast is incomplete ... for now.
