From defending the South Pole from an outer space threat (read Alien Hunter), the next entry from SciFi Pictures has us defending the North Pole from inner space. Deep Shock stars David Keith as naval Capt. Andy Raines, hired to head a small team of deep-sea specialists to investigate an undersea military research center, the Hubris. The station had been attacked by giant electric eels, and hasn't been heard from since. But there is more to this story than battling frisky sea monsters. Seems that Capt. Raines's ex-wife, Dr. Anne Fletcher, used to head up the research on the Hubris. She had discovered something heating up the trenches near the pole, and believed the entire planet would become a virtual Water World within 10 years, if the polar ice cap melts. Her colleague, Dr. Chomsky, wasn't concerned with her theories. He just doesn't like giant eels launching assaults on his ships. He gets Dr. Fletcher fired, and talks the U.N. into nuking the entire trench, and ridding the planet of these monsters. Easier said then done, as the crew of the Hubris gets fried just as they are firing into the Polaris trench. This forces Dr. Chomsky to call back in his rival, her ex-husband and his crew to check out the fate of the Hubris. But Anne discovers much more than a dead crew and her theory regarding the trench, and the eels who seem to be desperately guarding this undersea home. None of that may make any difference, as an entire fleet of submarines are on their way to the trench ... ready to blast the giants eels and their nest into kingdom come! Another impending global disaster fantasy/thriller with traces of The Abyss thrown in for good measure:
